mydearfriend,ihaveprocuredafrankforthisday,andhavingbeenhinderedallthemorninghavenotimelefttoframeexcusesformylongandinexcusablesilence,andcanonlythankyoufortheverykindwayinwhichyouoverlookit.ishouldcertainlyhavewrittenonthereceiptofyoursbutihadnotafrank,andalsoiwishedtodatemyletterfrommyownhomewhereyouexpressedsocordialawishtohearwehadarrived.wehavepassedten,imaycallthemverygoodweeks,atdalston,fortheycompletelyansweredthepurposeforwhichwewent.reckoningourhappymonthatcalne,wehavehadquitearuralsummer,andhaveobtainedaveryclearideaofthegreatbenefitofquiet—ofearlyhoursandtimeintirelyatone'sowndisposal,andnosmalladvantagesthesethingsare;butthereturntooldfriends—thesightofoldfamiliarfacesroundmehasalmostreconciledmetooccasionalheadachsandfitsofpeevishweariness—evenlondonstreets,whichisometimesusedtothinkithardtobeeternallydoomedtowalkthroughbeforeicouldseeagreenfield,seemquitedelightful.
