mybrotherspictureofmiltonisveryfinelypainted,thatis,itmighthavebeendonebyahandnexttovandyke's.itisthegenuinemilton,andanobjectofquietgazeforthehalfhouratatime.yettho'iamconfidentthereisnobetteroneofhim,thefacedoesnotquiteanswertomilton.thereisatingeofpetit(orpetite,howdoyouspellit)querulousnessabout.yethangit,nowirememberbetter,thereisnot—itiscalm,melancholy,andpoetical.
