[in1812lambinherited,throughhisgodfather,francisfielde,whoismentionedintheeliaessay"myfirstplay,"apropertycalledbuttonsnap,nearpuckeridge,inhertfordshire,consistingofasmallcottageandaboutanacreofground.in1815hesolditfor£50,andtheforegoingletterisanintimationofthetransactiontohistenant.thepurchaser,however,wasnotamr.grig,butamr.greg(seenotesto"myfirstplay"invol.ii.ofthisedition).inmylargeeditionigiveapictureofthecottage.
