mydearsarah,—nointentionofforfeitingmypromise,butmerewantoftime,haspreventedmefromcontinuingmyjournal.youseempleasedwiththelong,stupidoneisent,and,therefore,ishallcertainlycontinuetowriteateveryopportunity.thereasonwhyihavenothadanytimetospare,isbecausecharleshasgivenhimselfsomeholidaysafterthehardlabouroffinishinghisfarce,and,therefore,ihavehadnoneoftheeveningleisureipromisedmyself.nextweekhepromisestogotoworkagain.iwishhemayhappentohituponsomenewplan,tohismind,foranotherfarce:whenoncebegun,idonotfearhisperseverance,buttheholidayshehasallowedhimself,ifear,willunsettlehim.ilookforwardtonextweekwiththesamekindofanxietyididtothefirstentranceatthenewlodging.wehavehad,asyouknow,somanyteasinganxietiesoflate,thatihavegotakindofhabitofforebodingthatweshallneverbecomfortable,andthathewillneversettletowork:whichiknowiswrong,andwhichiwilltrywithallmymighttoovercome—forcertainly,ificouldbutseethingsastheyreallyare,ourprospectsareconsiderablyimprovedsincethememorabledayofmrs.fenwick'slastvisit.ihaveheardnothingofthatgoodlady,orofthefells,sinceyouleftus.
