whereisthenight,whenthesunisshining?ifitisnight,
thenthesunwithdrawsitslight.whereknowledgeis,can
ignoranceendure?
iftherebeignorance,thenknowledgemustdie.
iftherebelust,howcanlovebethere?wherethereislove,
thereisnolust.
layholdonyoursword,andjoininthefight.fight,omy
brother,aslongaslifelasts.
strikeoffyourenemy'shead,andtheremakeanendofhim
quickly:thencome,andbowyourheadatyourking'sdurbar.
hewhoisbrave,neverforsakesthebattle:hewhofliesfromit
isnotruefighter.
inthefieldofthisbodyagreatwargoesforward,against
passion,anger,pride,andgreed:
itisinthekingdomoftruth,contentmentandpurity,thatthis
battleisraging;andtheswordthatringsforthmostloudlyis
theswordofhisname.
