第六十八章《辜鸿铭讲论语》（7）

雍也第六

（一）子曰：“雍也可使南面。”

仲弓问子桑伯子。子曰：“可也，简。”

仲弓曰：“居敬而行简，以临其民，不亦可乎？居简而行简，无乃大简乎？”子曰：“雍之言然。”

辜译

confucius,onceexpressingadmirationforadisciple,remarked，“thereisyung——heshouldbemadeaprince.”

onanotheroccasion,whenthatdiscipleaskedconfucius'opinionofacertainpubliccharacterofthetime,confuciusanswered，“heisagoodman；heisindependent.”

“but，”repliedthedisciple，“whenamaninhisprivatelifeisseriouswithhimself,hemay,inhispubliclife,beindependentindealingwiththepeople.buttobeindependentwithhimselfinhisprivatelifeaswellasindependentinhispubliclife，——istherenottoomuchindependenceinthat?”“yes，”answeredconfucius，“youareright.”

有一次，孔子称赞他的学生冉雍说：“这就是雍啊——可以让他做一个部门或者一个地方的长官。”

又有一次，冉雍问孔子对当代公众人物子桑伯子的看法，孔子回答：“他是一个不错的人，很独立。”

“但是，”冉雍回答，“当一个人在自己的私生活中显得很独立时，在社会生活中同他人打交道也可能会不近人情。但是，如果他在私生活中显得很独立，就像他在社会生活中那样，那他是不是太过独立了？”“是，”孔子回答，“你说得很对。”（“独立”在某些版本中也被译作“简单”。）57

（二）

哀公问：“弟子孰为好学？”孔子对曰：“有颜回者好学，不迁怒，不贰过，不幸短命死矣。今也则亡，未闻好学者也。”

孔子祖国（鲁国）的国君鲁哀公问孔子：“你的学生中，哪个最好学？”孔子回答：“有一个叫颜回的，他从不迁怒于别人，也从不犯同样的错误，只是他不幸短命死了。现在没有那样的人了，我没听说谁更好学了。”

（三）

子华使于齐，冉子为其母请粟。子曰：“与之釜。”请益。曰：“与之庾。”冉子与之粟五秉。子曰：“赤之适齐也，乘肥马，衣轻裘。吾闻之也：君子周急不济富。”原思58为之宰，与之粟九百，辞。子曰：“毋，以与尔邻里乡党乎！”

onanotheroccasion,whenanotherdisciplewasappointedthechiefmagistrateofatown,confuciusappointedhissalaryatninehundredmeasuresofgrain.thediscipledeclineditasbeingtoomuch.

“donotdeclineit，”saidconfuciustohim，“ifthatismorethannecessaryforyourownwants,cannotyousharewhatyoudonotwantwithyourrelativesandneighboursathome?”

有一次，孔子的学生公西华奉命出使另一个国家，将母亲留在家里无人照顾。后来，另一位学生冉有请孔子送给她一些粮食。孔子说：“就给她这么多吧！”并说出了一定数量。冉有要求再多给点，孔子又多说了一些。最后，冉有送去的粮食比孔子答应的数量要多出许多。

孔子知道此事后，说：“公西华出使齐国的时候，驾着骏马拉的漂亮马车，穿着狐裘做的漂亮大衣。我认为，君子会把仁慈之心留给真正需要帮助的人，而不是去帮助小康之家或富人。”

还有一次，孔子的另一位学生原宪在孔子当鲁国司寇时，被孔子任命为家中总管，孔子答应给他九百担谷物作薪水，原宪觉得太多了不肯接受。

“不要推辞，”孔子对他说，“如果这些超过了你自己的需要，就把剩下的那些分给你家乡的亲戚和乡亲吧！”

（四）

子谓仲弓，曰：“犁牛之子骍且角，虽欲勿用，山川其舍诸？”

辜译

孔子的学生冉雍的父亲是个坏人，孔子评论冉雍时说：“有斑点的母牛产下的牛犊，如果给它提供良好的环境，尽管人们在祭祀时可能会犹豫是否该使用这样的牛犊，但对于神灵来说，也是可以接受的。”

（五）

子曰：“回也，其心三月不违仁，其余则日月至焉而已矣。”

孔子评论他最喜欢的学生颜回时说：“他可以长时间在思想和行动上遵守纯粹的道德规范。而对于其他人来说，最多只能做到几天至一个月。”

（六）

季康子问：“仲由可使从政也与？”子曰：“由也果，于从政乎何有？”曰：“赐也可使从政也与？”曰：“赐也达，于从政乎何有？”曰：“求也可使从政也与？”曰：“求也艺，于从政乎何有？”

季康子问孔子，他的学生、勇猛的仲由能否在政府做官。孔子回答说：“这个人做事果断，他在政府中做官有什么困难呢？”

季康子针对另一位学生端木赐也问了相同的问题。孔子回答说：“他是个洞察一切的人，他在政府中做官有什么困难呢？”

然后，季康子又针对另一位学生冉有问了同样的问题。孔子回答说：“他在很多方面都有所成就，他在政府中做官有什么困难呢？”

（七）

季氏使闵子骞59为费宰，闵子骞曰：“善为我辞焉！如有复我者，则吾必在汶上矣。”
